The CRC building has an air exhaust system to makeup air imbalance and this will be eliminated once the exhaust fans are retrofitted with variable speed drives. The CO2 control strategy will ensure that correct amounts of outside air will be brought into the space and reduce unnecessary processing of the unconditioned outside air. The existing exhaust systems will then be capable of properly regulating building pressurization, resulting in reduced energy waste and associated cost. The exhaust & fresh air will be reduced by first satisfying the CO2 requirements and then the positive pressure requirements. This is accomplished by controlling and minimizing the exhaust and outside air make-up to meet indoor air standards at minimal energy consumption. This will also lower the cooling and heating load for each zone. The exhaust and associated make-up air reduction will be approximately 20-30% with an annual savings of $102,000 based on current utility costs.
