Custodial Services at Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech's custodial team consists of more than 240 individuals responsible for cleaning campus  building interior space. Our award-winning green cleaning program was one of the nation's first at a public university. The Green Cleaning Program:

  • Protects student and building occupant health,
  • Protects the health of the custodial staff who use the cleaning supplies,
  • Protects the environment by reducing the release of hazardous chemicals

In the Spotlight

The AWARE Program

The AWARE Program (Actively Working to Achieve Resource Efficiency) is an innovative waste minimization program (initiated in 2020) that encourages members of the campus community to make environmentally responsible choices regarding the waste they generate.

Employees are responsible for sorting their own waste into the appropriate central collection bins located throughout each building. Custodial teams do not provide or service individual desk-side containers.

This initiative saves custodial resources and allows individuals to play an active role in achieving Georgia Tech's waste reduction and diversion goals. The link below provides further guidance on waste management on campus.

Georgia Tech President Ángel Cabrera's Message

Georgia Tech is committed to developing leaders who understand the importance of a healthy planet to improve the human condition and are ready to make a difference. We carry out that mission not only through education and research, but very importantly, by being an example of sustainability in our own operations. The AWARE program helps the environment and it serves as a daily reminder to all of us that we can all make a difference.

Smart Restrooms

Georgia Tech’s Smart Restroom Customer Enhancement Program is now active campus-wide and was nationally recognized with APPA’s Effective & Innovative Practices Award.

In participating restrooms, users can scan a QR code to report issues. Submissions go directly to Building Services, allowing for fast, efficient response. This tech-driven system improves service and helps keep restrooms clean and well-maintained.

In 2021, Building Services implemented the campus-wide MaskIT® menstrual hygiene disposal system. This system is a hygienic and sustainable method of product disposal adopted at numerous colleges and universities around the world.
