Greg Spiro
Interim Vice President, Infrastructure and Operations
Greg Spiro is a licensed engineer, LEED AP and Certification of Energy Management (CEM) with more than 30 years of mechanical systems experience. He has worked at Georgia Tech for more than 27 years.
Throughout his time at Georgia Tech, Greg has taken an active role in promoting and enforcing Georgia Tech's values, standards, and sustainability initiatives. Past work includes the planning, development, and tracking of the The Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design (built to meet all imperatives of the Living Building Challenge), implementation of Guaranteed Energy Savings Performance contracts, management of I&O utility analytics team, project management and team member for the Campus Comprehensive Plan and the Institute Climate Action Plan, and most recently the management of Georgia Tech’s Utility Masterplan.
Greg has also served as a voting member on the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) BACnet (Building Automation and Control Network) committee.

Audrey Childs
Assistant to the Vice President
Audrey Childs brings more than 20 years of experience in customer support, administrative leadership and executive support within higher education. Since joining Georgia Tech in 2018, she has built a reputation as a trusted administrative professional known for her collaborative approach, strong event coordination skills, and commitment to exceptional service.
Most recently, Audrey served as Administrative Manager within one of Georgia Tech's premier colleges, where she provided strategic support to senior leadership and oversaw a wide range of administrative operations. Her expertise includes faculty support, human resources processes, budget management, event coordination, hiring and onboarding, and managing complex initiatives while fostering strong relationships across the institution.
Audrey began her Georgia Tech career as a Tech Temp and became a permanent employee within six months, reflecting her dedication and the value she quickly brought to the organization.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Morris Brown College, a Historically Black College (HBCU), and is recognized for her warm personality, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to serving students, faculty, staff, and campus partners.
Shamieka Alford
Human Resources Business Partner
Shamieka Alford brings an impressive 10 year career in corporate human resources prior to joining Georgia Tech in 2022. She also has 20+ years experience in supply chain management, logistics, operations, and customer service. This experience, coupled with her leadership skills, will ensure her ability to drive strategic initiatives and deliver impactful results. Shamieka will lead the I&O human resources consultant team of Keylie Llovera and Valerie Rossell.
Shamieka holds a bachelor of science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resource Management from Troy University in Alabama.
Jay Brewer
(Interim) Senior Director, Data Management and Automation
Jay is serving as the Interim Senior Director of Data Management and Automation, as well as functioning in his original role as Associate Director of Information Technology.
Jay brings seven years of experience at Georgia Tech, having previously supported OIT-AV and the Administrative Services Center. Prior to joining the Institute, he held roles at Davidson College, Harvard Business School, and Emory University, building a strong background in technology and service delivery.
Jay is an active musician and former audio engineer, and is on track to complete his MBA from Georgia Tech’s Scheller College of Business this December. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Miami.
Brian Clarke
Associate Director, Campus Engineering
Brian brings a wealth of knowledge regarding the campus electrical system. He has been instrumental in modernizing much of the electrical infrastructure. He has designed, or participated in the design of, more than 1000 individual renovation projects from single rooms to entire buildings across the campus.
Brian is a graduate of Mercer University with a B.S. in Engineering and he is a Georgia licensed professional engineer. He started his career at Georgia Tech as a Facilities Electrical Engineer I and has served in various positions for more than 28 years. In total, he has worked for the University System of Georgia for more than 30 years.
Jerel Harris
Associate Vice President, Environmental Health and Safety
Jerel Harris serves as the Associate Vice President for Environmental Health and Safety providing strategic leadership for safety, compliance, and risk functions that support Georgia Tech’s research and campus operations. In this role, Jerel oversees Biological Safety, Environmental Programs, Fire Safety, General Safety, Laboratory and Chemical Safety, Hazardous Materials, and Radiation Safety, ensuring the protection of Georgia Tech’s people, research enterprise, and infrastructure across a rapidly growing R1 environment.
Jerel partners with executive leadership, academic units, research administration, and campus operations to strengthen institutional resilience, enhance compliance systems, and support mission‑critical research and innovation. His work focuses on building proactive safety cultures, modernizing operational practices, and reducing institutional risk across diverse and high‑hazard settings.
He has been with Georgia Tech for more than a decade, previously serving as the Institute’s General Safety Manager. Before joining Georgia Tech, Jerel served as director of environmental health and safety at Fort Valley State University and as watershed safety manager for the City of Atlanta, where he led large‑scale public safety and environmental protection initiatives.
Jerel holds a Doctorate in Public Health from Georgia Southern University, a Master of Science in Environmental Safety and Health Management, an MBA from the University of Findlay (Ohio), and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Safety from the University of Central Oklahoma. He also holds an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice.
Throughout his career, Jerel has been recognized for his ability to build strong teams, elevate compliance standards, and drive operational excellence in complex, high‑risk environments. His leadership continues to advance Georgia Tech’s commitment to safety, preparedness, and institutional stewardship.
Tommy Little
Associate Vice President, Services
Tommy Little has served in I&O leadership roles for more than 29 years. As Associate Vice President of Services, he oversees the following individual departments: Building Services, Fleet Management, Material Management, Move Management, Zero Waste, and Staging. He held a similar role at Auburn University prior to joining Georgia Tech. He spearheads the team of IT and Support Services professionals supporting Smart Restrooms technology - an enhanced customer service program throughout campus. He is a founding member and inaugural chair of the Staff Council Benefits & Compensation Committee, a founding member of the Healthy Schools Campaign, a member of the Green Clean Schools Leadership Council, and is International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA) Certified. Tommy is a 1987 graduate of the Broadwell College of Business & Economics at Fayetteville State University, a 2024 Graduate, MIT-Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Professional Education Program, Circular Economy, and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.

Alex Ortiz
Executive Director, Building Operations and Customer Service
Alex Ortiz holds an MBA from the Scheller College of Business at Georgia Tech, with concentrations in Sustainability, Strategic Operations, and Technology, and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Tulane University. A Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Alex has a proven track record in process design, implementation, and improvement. Alex has been with Georgia Tech since 2009, demonstrating collaborative leadership across a range of disciplines. His diverse background spans consulting, global operations, logistics, life science research, and hospitality, bringing a multifaceted perspective to complex challenges. With a strong foundation in both scientific and business principles, Alex is committed to driving sustainable and strategic solutions in dynamic environments.
John Richardson
Senior Director, Budgeting and Finance
With nearly 20 years of experience providing audit, assurance, and financial services to a wide variety of educational organizations, John has built a career dedicated to delivering expert financial management and mission-aligned strategic support. As Senior Director of Budgeting and Finance, John oversees a team of experienced business professionals who provide a full suite of business services ranging from budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting to procurement, interdepartmental billing and accounts payable. He has been with Georgia Tech for over 12 years, previously serving as Director of Budgeting and Finance.
Prior to joining Georgia Tech, he served as Assistant Director of Accounting at Atlanta Public Schools. John began his career in public accounting and spent several years as a Senior Auditor with the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts, specializing in financial and operational audits of colleges and universities within the University System of Georgia.
He holds a Master’s degree in Accountancy and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Georgia.
